Jeff Thomas and John Neral (instrumental Irish tunes)
In 2005, concertina player Jeff Thomas relocated to Frostburg from Asheville, North Carolina where he was known as a leading figure in Asheville's strong Irish music scene. Because concertina players were such a rarity at the time Jeff began playing (nearly 20 years ago), he was forced to become self-reliant in his instruction. From those tentative early steps, he has grown into a powerful player, creating a strong following among Irish music aficionados in the Southeast. Today he divvies up his time between playing Irish Traditional Music and crafting his own line of top quality Concertinas. In addition to teaching Economics at Frostburg State University, John Neral has been playing a well assorted mix of traditional and folk music for a number of years. After spending some time teaching in Ireland, John developed an interest in Irish Traditional Music. Recently, that interest has increased as he and Jeff joined forces to create what they hope will be the beginning of a solid Irish Traditional Music scene in the Frostburg area.
Jeff and John will be accompanied by dancer Nikki Mason. Nikki currently dances with the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance. She has performed at the Kennedy Center and Wolftrap Theater, and will compete in the upcoming North American Championships in July.
